Medical Care Provider

The purpose of this position is to provide continuity of care for inmates. This position conducts inmate medical assessments, manages medications, manages a caseload, participates in training and related events and maintains documentation.

Essential duties and responsibilities include conducting head-to-toe assessments on inmates, managing and administering medications, maintaining medical documentation, managing caseload, calling on records when needed, participating in training sessions, mock codes, drills and seminars, performing other duties as assigned, reviewing, editing, and providing recommendations on project and team related budgets, providing project research support on employee training and development projects, explaining County procedures or processes, communicating and reporting inmates' medical needs, creating or editing documents, internal memos, emails, reports and medical supply requisitions, interacting regularly with internal coworkers and other departmental personnel over the telephone, by email, and/or in person, and incidental contact with the public may occur as part of the work location.

Minimum education required is an Associate's Degree in Nursing or above, Licensed Practical Nurse. Some experience providing medical care to inmates in detention or jail facility preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS), CPR are required.

Knowledge required includes pharmacology, nursing, first aid, and CPR. Skills required include active listening, critical thinking, problem recognition, problem solving, diversity awareness, troubleshooting, time management and multi-tasking. Abilities required include fully and quickly comprehending spoken words, solving problems sensibly and swiftly, maintaining hand eye coordination, maintaining calm demeanor in stressful situations, considering options, risks and benefits. Physical demands include standing, sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs, dexterity for special medical machines and gadgets, bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting.

Work environment includes medical exam rooms and office environment. Safety risk exposure includes physical danger, chemical hazards, blood borne pathogens, communicable diseases, hostile patients, verbal abuse and emotional individuals. Protective gear and safety manuals are required. Consequences of error can result in property damage, individual injury, or loss of life.
