The purpose of this position is to ensure safety while using cost‑effective measures.
This position weighs vehicles, moves traffic, and assists customers at the landfill. The worker operates trucks, performs cleaning duties, trains new employees, and performs bookkeeping and report preparation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Weighs vehicles, moves traffic safely, and gives customers directions.
- Maintains records of all charges for billing, collects fees and balances with reports, and makes deposits.
- Prepares reports, including waste tire count, recycled paper reports, and end‑of‑month totals.
- Serves as laborer, operating dump truck, water truck, and pull magnet; picks up litter and cleans area around scalehouse.
- Trains new scalehouse employees in landfill procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position does not supervise other employees.
BUDGET RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has no responsibility over any types of budget.
PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIESThis position does not have project responsibilities.
ORAL COMMUNICATION DUTIESThe position trains colleagues in scalehouse operation.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION DUTIESThis position creates or edits documents, internal memos, emails, certain papers, and reports.
INTERACTIONS WITH THE GENERAL PUBLICInteracts regularly with internal coworkers and other departmental personnel over the telephone, by email, and/or in person. Incidental contact with the public may occur as part of the work location.
INTERACTIONS SPECIFICALLY WITH CUSTOMERSInteracts with customers more than 85% of the time in a year.
MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREDHigh School Diploma or GED.
MINIMUM YEARS OF DIRECTLY RELATED EXPERIENCE REQUIREDOne (1) year customer service and cash handling experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS REQUIREDMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREDClerical; customer and personal service and cash handling.
SKILLS REQUIREDCommunicating diplomatically; customer service; problem recognition; problem solving; multi‑tasking; typing and data entry.
ABILITIES REQUIREDCategorize and group data; perform mathematical operations; focus; multi‑task; maintain calm demeanor in stressful situations; adapt to weather conditions affecting operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Routinely stands to attend to cash register and to attend to customers.
- Routinely sits to complete reports or to operate computers.
- May be required to lift work‑related materials or equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Regularly requires dexterity for keyboard operation, occasionally dexterity for special gadgets, special machines, heavy equipment, and tools.
- Incumbents may occasionally walk to and from work sites, bend, stoop, and/or twist.
Incumbents in this position spend most time in office and/or lobby environments, occasionally spend time in an automobile, and routinely spend time in equipment operation areas.
SAFETY RISK EXPOSUREIncumbents may become exposed to telephone verbal abuse by customers or citizens; individuals with high levels of emotional distress; blood borne pathogens, communicable diseases, respiratory hazards, and extreme temperatures.
PROTECTIVE GEAR & SAFETY MANUALSIncumbents are required to follow written safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department and may occasionally be required to wear a hard hat.
