Work as part of an instructional team with teachers and related‑services personnel to design, implement, and evaluate program activities that ensure high levels of learning and performance for identified students.

Responsibilities and Duties- Use instructional strategies, techniques, and language developed and supervised by teachers to support individual student needs.
- Gather, maintain, and monitor data on student progress, achievement, and behavior.
- Identify behaviors and cognitive processes that interfere with learning and implement strategies to promote positive social and academic behaviors.
- Assist in creating a climate of acceptance for diverse learning populations and facilitating social/emotional needs.
- Provide instruction in academic, vocational, and interpersonal skills in school and community settings.
- Support student community‑based instruction and drive students to approved community sites in a school‑owned vehicle.
- Assist in planning, modifying, and implementing curriculum, instruction, and assessment within the classroom and expanded school environment.
- Provide instruction in reading, writing, and mathematics readiness.
- Assist students with basic and student‑specific educational technology.
- Reinforce and foster opportunities to generalize skills within the classroom and expanded school environment.
- Produce classroom/school materials in collaboration with the special education and classroom teachers.
- Participate as a collaborative team member, including attendance at meetings beyond the school day when needed.
- Provide instructional and/or physical assistance in personal care routines (e.g., toileting, hygiene, dressing) when needed.
- Maintain student confidentiality and serve as the primary contact for communication with families and others involved in a student’s education.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance, promptness, dependability, and professional ethics.
- Work cooperatively as an effective team member, sharing strategies, techniques, and materials.
- Utilize effective communication skills with students, colleagues, families, and related agencies.
- Participate in ongoing professional development specific to student and classroom needs.
- Perform all functions in accordance with the RI Professional Code of Conduct, laws, regulations, and district policies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, school, and district administrators.
- Associate degree preferred.
- Appropriate certification as a Teacher Assistant through RIDE.
- Evidence of knowledge and skills necessary to perform the functions of the position.
- Evidence of knowledge and/or implementation of instructional and behavioral strategies, materials, and/or technologies.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and training, including the use of adaptive instructional and assessment materials.
- Demonstrated ability to learn new strategies, techniques, and technologies.
- Ability to occasionally lift or restrain students.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Good character.
- Willingness to drive a school vehicle with a valid RI license.
- Training in the use of adaptive software and instructional/assessment materials, or equivalently qualified experience.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
