Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the daily operations of a driver license substation.
- Direct, train, and evaluate subordinate staff, including establishing performance standards.
- Determine driver license eligibility and take licensing actions, including suspension or revocation when authorized.
- Administer and oversee written, vision, and road performance examinations and issue driver licenses.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities of the position.
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
Experience RequirementThree years of supervisory, driver training instructional, regulatory, or related experience, including or supplemented by one year of frequent public contact which involved explaining rules and regulations to others in determining their eligibility or non‑eligibility for licenses, benefits, or similar matters.
Applicable Skills Needed- Comprehensive knowledge of laws, regulations, and safety standards governing commercial and motor vehicle licensing and roadway operations.
- Proficient in operating a variety of commercial and motor vehicles and administering standardized road performance tests to evaluate driver competency.
- Strong ability to identify hazards, apply safe driving techniques, and act quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
- Effective in explaining regulations and procedures, providing clear oral instructions, evaluating performance objectively, and interacting tactfully with the public.
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license (Type
3) at the time of application.
Candidates must possess a good driving record, as evidenced by a certified traffic abstract with no moving violations within the past three years, and must possess an appropriate valid driver's license for at least three years immediately preceding appointment.
