Job DescriptionThe Middle School Teacher – Digital Literacy is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving an engaging curriculum that equips students in grades 6–8 with the knowledge and skills necessary to use digital tools such as Artificial Intelligence, Social Media, and online productivity tools like Google Suite effectively, ethically, and responsibly. The curriculum focuses on critical thinking, digital well‑being, and the practical application of technologies like Artificial Intelligence and social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver a standards‑aligned middle school curriculum focused on digital literacy, digital safety, and well‑being, responsible online citizenship, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
- Design engaging lessons that introduce students to AI concepts, including generative AI, machine learning, prompt engineering, and the limitations of AI systems.
- Assess student understanding through formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instructional decisions.
- Teach and model responsible digital citizenship practices, including instruction on the “attention economy” and the ethical use of AI tools, academic integrity, attribution, copyright awareness, and plagiarism prevention.
- Promote safe online behaviors, protecting personal information, maintaining privacy, and evaluating digital content critically.
- Facilitate discussions about bias, misinformation, deepfakes, online safety, and the societal impacts of artificial intelligence.
- Help students evaluate the accuracy, credibility, and reliability of social media‑based and AI‑generated content and digital sources.
- Foster respectful, inclusive, and responsible participation in digital communities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Valid Massachusetts Teaching License, Digital Literacy and Computer Science (DLCS) license, 5–12.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.

Salary and BenefitsSalary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, in accordance with the Gloucester Public Schools Teacher’s salary schedule. Salary Range: $60,150.00 – $. Benefits include health, dental, vision insurance, and retirement options.
