Job Description

Gloucester High School is seeking a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher to join our team in the Life Skills program. In this role, you will work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities within the general education classroom setting. You will play a vital role in creating an inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

Gloucester High School is a vibrant and diverse urban school serving grades 9-12. Situated along the Annisquam River near Gloucester Harbor, the school has an economically and socially diverse student body of 800 students and approximately 120 faculty and staff. GHS’s top priorities are:
Using brain-based culturally responsive instructional practices to support student learning and academic achievement;
Increasing social-emotional learning in the areas of self‑awareness, self‑management, responsible decision‑making, relationship skills, and social awareness; and Improving student wellness, inclusion, and belonging. Job Requirements
  • Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree, preferred
    • Valid Massachusetts Teacher License, Social Studies, preferred
    • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferred
    • Demonstrated commitment to creating an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
    • Excellent collaboration, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in using technology to support instruction and communication.
  • Status: Full-time (6.5 hours per day) Starting September 2, 2026 through approximately January 5, 2027 to cover a medical leave of absence.
  • Salary: $100 per day / $125 after the 21st day
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
