The Role

Cometeer is looking for a Process Controls Engineer to support a variety of electromechanical processes across Factory Extraction and Packaging Operations. The role will focus on continuous improvement projects of varying complexity to support production capacity, reduce costs, improve equipment efficiency, and enhance operational performance. The role will report directly to the Engineering Manager with guidance from senior engineers and plant leadership.

The role will require working closely with the Engineering, Maintenance, and other Operations team members to troubleshoot, select, install, test, and modify existing equipment.

What You’ll Do
  • Specify, design, configure, troubleshoot, and test machine control systems, including a broad range of sensors and instrumentation, primarily on Allen Bradley platforms
  • Design, develop, and implement process improvements to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency
  • Support and guide technicians during control system troubleshooting or modifications
  • Maintain and document automation programs and electrical schematic revision history
  • Analyze process data to make data-driven decisions for troubleshooting and optimization
  • Comply with and support all Food Safety and Quality policies, programs, and procedures so our products meet and exceed consumer expectations
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Computer Engineering, Mechatronics/Controls, or equivalent hands‑on experience and training
  • 1-4 years of hands‑on experience in manufacturing, automation, or process improvement with electro‑mechanical systems supporting a production environment
  • Familiarity with programming PLCs, HMIs, and drives; exposure to Allen Bradley equipment and A‑B PLC code
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs
  • Strong, data‑driven problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently and within teams
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to adapt to shifting priorities across different levels of the organization
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Programming:
    Studio 5000, Factory Talk, Indralogic, Python, SQL, Siemens
  • Automation:
    Variable frequency drives, pneumatic valves, servo motion control, PID control, vision inspection, robotics
  • Industrial communications: ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC UA, IO-Link devices, Profibus, ASI-Bus
  • Data & Reporting:
    Factory Talk Historian, Vantagepoint, Ignition, Power BI, Perspective, basic SQL queries
  • Experience installing and commissioning control systems
  • Food Manufacturing: CIP systems, batch process familiarity, SQF / GMP awareness, hygienic equipment design
  • Mechanical aptitude including Solidworks design, fabrication, and mechanical drawings.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Requires standing, walking, sitting, and using hands/fingers to handle objects, tools, or controls; reaching, climbing stairs/ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; close, distance, and peripheral vision with depth perception.
  • Typical schedule is Monday–Friday, with hours varying week to week based on production needs - some weeks a standard 40-hour schedule, others requiring longer days (up to 10 hours), with occasional evening or weekend coverage.
