STEM Specialty Camp Counselor

Job Description

Camp Halfmoon, in Goffstown NH, is seeking Jr. Counselors and Counselors for the summer 2026 season. This role offers a fulfilling summer job where you can build leadership skills, have a meaningful impact on youth, and enjoy playing games with a supportive team.

Our traditional outdoor summer day camp serves youth to build relationships, try new things, make memories, and ensure camper safety while having fun and acting as positive role models. The YMCA values creating supportive, empowering teams that help each member thrive.

Counselors will be assigned to a unit of same‑age campers that fits their preferences, experiences, and the needs of the camp. They work with fellow counselors to manage campers, facilitate activities, and build valuable peer connections.

• Plan and lead engaging STEM activities, projects, and challenges for campers
• Teach age‑appropriate concepts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through hands‑on learning
• Facilitate experiments, coding activities, robotics, engineering design challenges, and other STEM‑focused experiences
• Supervise campers and ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive camp environment
• Prepare, organize, and maintain STEM equipment, materials, and learning spaces
• Encourage creativity, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills among campers
• Uphold the YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Courage

• Experience working or volunteering with youth in recreation or a similar setting (preferred)
• Knowledge of STEM subjects and enthusiasm for hands‑on learning
• Must be willing and able to obtain CPR & First Aid certifications, or currently hold valid certifications
• Must be available to attend camp trainings before and throughout the camp season
• Ability to bring a patient, caring, responsible, flexible, and positive attitude to work

Specialty Camp runs: 6/29‑7/3, 7/20‑7/24, and 7/27‑7/31.

Camp season runs: 06/22/26 through 08/27/27 and requires a minimum of 3 additional camp weeks beyond the Specialty Camp weeks listed.
