The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Fire Safety, has a full-time vacancy for an Electrical Inspector, SOC Title 47-4010 BLDG INSPECTORS-4. This position has a 40 hour work week and is considered non-exempt.

Conducts thorough plan reviews and inspections of new and existing electrical installations, alterations and/or repairs to ensure applicable laws, rules, codes and standards are met. Conducts investigations of suspected electrical code violations.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Education/

Experience:

Equivalent combination of 9 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in the electrical field, with at least 3 years of conducting inspections of construction projects and technical interpretations of the National Electrical Code.

• Valid NH Master Electrician license
• Valid driver's license

• Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information
• Must be available for overtime work on short notice and emergency work at times other than normal business hours based on workload and critical need

Trainee Option:
Candidates with an equivalent combination of 8+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in ‘trainee status’ for this position.

When applicable, the work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. • Performs construction plan review to verify state building and fire code compliance and issues approvals when directed by the Deputy Fire Marshal. Assists with inspections of construction projects in state buildings and others as required in RSA 155-A and Saf-C 8100.
• Assists local fire officials and code enforcement officials with inspections of residential, commercial and industrial installations on premises for which permits have been issued, as the work is in process and upon completion by licensed electricians and provides technical assistance and interpretations of the applicable laws, rules, codes, and standards.
