Melrose Center for Leadership & Equity OverviewAt Breck, the Melrose Center for Leadership & Equity is a student-centered, faculty-focused, and community-minded space where students and faculty can explore crucial issues that shape the daily health of our school community. In partnership with the Peter Clark Center for Mind, Brain, and Education, the Melrose Center ensures the alignment of Breck’s P-12 student, teaching, and learning experience.
Job SummaryThe Dean of Equity provides strategic leadership for equity, belonging, and inclusive excellence across Breck’s academic and community life. The Dean of Equity collaborates closely with the Melrose team, division directors, faculty, staff, and students to advance Breck’s mission.
Key Responsibilities- Partner with the Dean of Leadership and the Dean of Community Engagement to coordinate Melrose's quarterly cultural and community programming
- Oversee the 2nd-12th-grade student Affinity Group program
- Convene and facilitate faculty and staff affinity groups
- Serve as the faculty advisor for the Middle and Upper School Student Diversity and Inclusion Councils (SDIC)
- Support the Freshman Academy experience, acclimating students to the social and academic experience of Breck’s upper school
- Collaborate with division directors, deans, and counselors across divisions to uphold Breck’s restorative ethos through advisory, community meetings, assemblies, and circle programming
- Design and deliver individualized professional development for faculty as an Instructional Coach
- Teach as 20% faculty in Middle or Upper School programs and electives
- Advanced degree preferred
- 5+ years of P-12 teaching experience
- Prior experience as a DEI lead or coordinator within an independent school
- Strong understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and research-informed practices
- Experience in program development and co-design with students, faculty, and school leaders
- Excellent communication, collaboration, presentation, and organizational skills
