RJM is ready to welcome a dynamic and collaborative Safety Director who cultivates and communicates a best‑in‑class safety culture, ensuring OSHA compliance and other industry standards. The director leads the development and implementation of company‑wide safety initiatives, KPIs, policies, and procedures to maintain the health and safety of employees, partners, and clients.
Responsibilities- Self‑motivated with a positive and engaging approach to building credibility and safety accountability throughout the company.
- Use a whole‑life approach integrating safety into everything we do with a Culture of Care, equity, inclusion, and mental health attention in collaboration with all departments.
- Lead development and clear articulation of the company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures to build a safety culture dedicated to best‑in‑class results.
- Provide proactive leadership and assume ownership of building a best‑in‑class safety culture by anticipating problems, providing solutions, sharing knowledge, and providing training to all levels of management, field staff, preconstruction, and project teams.
- Use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, monitor results, and take corrective action.
- Ensure safety & health training meets the needs of internal and external requirements so staff can safely perform tasks and jobs.
- Lead incident investigations.
- Review and comment on crane pick plans.
- Interact with OSHA representatives during scheduled and unscheduled site visits and investigations.
- Manage hazard assessment activities by conducting or supervising safety inspections and analyzing inspection and incident data to identify opportunities for preventive and corrective practices.
- Develop annual plans and budgets for safety & health initiatives, including training.
- Lead and manage the safety staff; develop a high‑performance, customer‑oriented team through hiring, motivating, coaching, appraising, rewarding, disciplining, and resolving staff issues.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management, Construction Management or equivalent. Proven experience may be substituted for degree.
Professional Safety Certification: Preferred (OSHA 500, CSP, etc.)
Work Experience: Minimum 10 years construction industry experience or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge. Minimum 5 years’ experience managing a structured safety program; self‑performing general contractor or specialty contractor preferable.
Demonstrated Technical
Competencies:
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; operate safety equipment, monitoring devices, and camera.
- In‑depth technical knowledge of construction related OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective practices.
- Prior practice incorporating whole‑person safety concept into day‑to‑day activities.
Demonstrated Professional

- Strong organizational skills.
- Displays strong written, oral communication, and effective listening skills.
- Analyze problems and make sound decisions in a timely manner based on objectives, risks, implications, and costs.
- Tactful and mature demeanor with well‑developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to work well with diverse personalities.
- Experience managing staff and third‑party hired firms.
- Effective communicator, generating professional written material and delivering effective verbal presentations.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Manages safety incentive programs rewarding targeted behaviors & results.
- Manages workers’ comp & vehicle claims.
- Manages return‑to‑work/restricted duty program.
- Leads or participates in Safety Committee.
- Manages administration of motor vehicle records program.
