Job Title - Analytical Chemist (Food/Pet R&D)
Duration: 5+ Months
Schedule: M-F (8am-5pm)
Job DescriptionThe North America ITQ Pet team is seeking a highly motivated ITQ Technologist to contribute to critical innovation, renovation, and HMM projects. This role is central to advancing palatability and ingredient solution technology development across our diverse portfolio of dry, wet, treat, and fresh pet food categories. A key focus will be providing various analytical instrumental support within the ITQ Pet laboratory to drive advancements in pet food palatability and functional ingredients.
KEYACCOUNTABILITIES
- Conduct analytical testing, including sample preparation and instrumental analysis in ITQ Pet lab
- Summarize results and share learnings to ITQ Pet team, closely working with ITQ Technology Scientists
- Manage ITQ Pet lab analytical instrument maintenance tasks
- Support exploring and developing new instruments that are beneficial to drive pet palatability
- Develop and manage SoPs on ITQ Pet lab instruments
- Manage some projects independently while working collaboratively with others to deliver results
- Build and leverage cross-ITQ and external network to support and execute work
- Clearly communicate status of key deliverables and partner with ITQ scientists to adapt deliverables with business dynamics
- 2-year degree in scientific field with 2-3 year industry experience, or 4-year degree in scientific field such as Chemistry and Food Science
- Basic analytical and/or food chemistry testing including pipetting, weighing, grinding, etc.
- Ability to manually calculate analytical test results
- Comfortable in food lab environment; comfortable operating and troubleshooting equipment
- Basic computer/technology skills (Office Suite)
- Basic understanding of food safety and human safety
- Ability to complete work without frequent daily direction
- Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate in a high performing technical team
- Able to independently manage your responsibilities and prioritize across multiple competing priorities
- Attention to detail to manage lab instrumentation
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry
- Familiarity with lab instrumentation, including gas chromatography
- Demonstrated passion and creativity around equipment set-up and modifications, food processing and product evaluation
- Interpersonal ability to build relationships at all levels within the organization to advance work
- Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills
- Results-orientated with strong bias for action and high regard for quality of work
