Responsibilities
Kforce has a client in Golden, CO that is seeking an experienced Manager of Special Revenue and Capital Account to lead the organization's grants, restricted funding, and capital asset accounting functions. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial reporting related to grants, capital investments, and restricted funds while leading a high-performing accounting team. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting expertise, leadership experience, and a passion for improving financial processes and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team responsible for grants, restricted funds, and capital asset accounting
- Oversee daily accounting operations related to grants, special revenue funds, capital assets, and project accounting
- Establish standardized accounting policies, workflows, and procedures that promote consistency, compliance, and operational efficiency
- Monitor grant budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with funding requirements, allowable costs, and internal policies
- Ensure accurate accounting and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP, applicable accounting standards, and regulatory requirements
- Manage accounting for capital assets, including capitalization, depreciation, construction-in-progress, and project cost tracking
- Coordinate financial reporting for grants, restricted funds, and capital projects, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to internal and external stakeholders
- Serve as the primary accounting lead for grant-related audits and coordinate support for external audit activities
- Partner with business leaders to provide financial guidance on grant management, capital projects, and restricted funding
- Collaborate with project management, operations, and finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting throughout the lifecycle of capital projects
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered)
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
- City/State/County government experience required
- Experience managing grants, restricted funds, capital assets, or project accounting is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, and regulatory compliance
- Experience with ERP financial systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, improve processes, and manage multiple priorities in a complex environment
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Experience with grant accounting and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of capital asset accounting, construction accounting, or project-based financial management
- Experience supporting external audits and implementing financial process improvements
- Familiarity with ERP system implementations, upgrades, or workflow automation initiatives
- A collaborative and proactive leader who develops high-performing teams
- Strong technical accounting knowledge with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders
- Experience driving operational improvements, strengthening internal controls, and enhancing financial reporting
- A continuous improvement mindset with the ability to balance strategic initiatives and day-to-day operational responsibilities
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
