Experienced Engineering Technician

Seeking an experienced Construction Materials Field Technician to support construction projects throughout the Denver, Colorado area. This role is ideal for a hands‑on professional who enjoys working outdoors, performing field testing, and ensuring construction materials meet project specifications and quality standards.

Compensation: $24-32/hour (DOE)
Location: Denver, Colorado
FLSA Exemption: Non‑Exempt
Schedule: Full‑time; hours may vary based on project demands

What you’ll be doing :
  • Perform routine field testing of construction materials to verify compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Conduct field tests on materials including:
    • Fresh concrete (slump, air, temperature, cylinders)
    • Soil compaction and density testing
    • Aggregate sampling and observation
  • Accurately document test results and complete daily reports and data sheets.
  • Communicate professionally with contractors, project managers, inspectors, and internal teams.
  • Maintain and safely operate testing equipment in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor based on project needs.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2+ years of construction materials testing experience in the field.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and clean MVR.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate reporting.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and basic computer reporting tools.
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on CDOT transportation or public infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM/AASHTO field testing procedures.
  • Additional certifications beyond minimum requirements.
  • Positive attitude, strong initiative, and customer‑service mindset.
  • Desire to grow into advanced testing, inspection, or leadership roles.
Certification(s):
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I
  • WAQTC In‑Place Density Certification (commonly required for Colorado/CDOT projects)
  • WAQTC Embankment & Base
  • ACI Strength Testing Technician
  • NICET Construction Materials Testing (Soils, Concrete, or Asphalt – Level I or II)
  • Nuclear Gauge Safety / Radiation Safety Training

Will provide financial assistance for certifications, renewals, PDHs, and continuing education.
