Academic Advising Coordinator
Mines Center for Academic Success and Advising Team is hiring! Academic Advising Coordinators (AACs) support the academic progression of Mines students via holistic and developmental academic advising as a member of the Center for Academic Success and Advising (CASA) team. As an Academic Advising Coordinator, you will administer various academic support services and retention efforts in collaboration with academic faculty and administration.
In this integral role, you will uphold established national standards for academic advising and academic support while upholding the mission of Colorado School of Mines.
You will play an active role in collaborating and working alongside CASA colleagues and will often backfill, support, and/or cross-train colleagues with advising and support efforts. This is a full time, 12-month administrative faculty exempt role. This is position is based in Golden, Colorado and will work in-person on the Mines campus most days of the week. This posting will be used to fill more than one position.

CASA is embarking on a collaborative structural redesign to create an office/center more heavily focused on academic support, retention, degree progression, and advanced student advising. AACs will have the opportunity to contribute to this evolution. Time allocations and office deliverables may shift, but key responsibilities and skills will remain.
Responsibilities
Academic Advising & CASA Effectiveness
- Provide academic advisement for undergraduate students either in their first year at Mines or in their sophomore year and beyond in major coursework communication & outreach (individual and group) with a pre-assigned set of students (approximately 500). Provide assistance with transition as a student progresses to their identified and declared major(s).
- Accurate and timely assistance/guidance with course planning, registration, and class scheduling.
- Review, approve, and assist with class scheduling, including the release of PINs with students.
- Provide individualized assistance/guidance to all students, including those with complex transcripts (this would include students with AP/IB advanced credit, transfer students, non-traditional, and more).
- Maintain consistent and thorough records of all student contact and advisement. This would include pre- and post-advising session notes.
- Communicate with academic faculty in need of assistance & support for advising purposes – including upper division advising assistance.
- When necessary, assistance and support to student families and prospective student/families, maintaining FERPA compliance when working with parents and families of students.
- Provide personalized assistance – based in student development theory and support – with any student need, exploration, or situation. This includes collaboration and outreach to support offices.
- Represent the University to various institutional divisions by serving on various university ad hoc committees as well as externally to students and/or the general public/local community.
- When appropriate, host "office hours" at various locations across campus, including the academic departments. Office hours will support coordinators effort to advise students more effectively.
- Assist as needed with all Student Life and CLASS programs, events, and specialty weekends.
Academic Support Service Coordination
- Manage and oversee an academic support service function, including early alert/retention, academic coaching, bounce back, peer advisors, tutoring and core review, programming, major exploration, and/or hiring/training.
- Provide budget oversight for respective academic support services
- Supervise student staff, including time tracking, hiring, and training.
Academic Coaching
- Offer individualized and research-backed academic coaching assistance to students seeking to improve their academic performance at Mines.
