We are seeking a highly skilled Senior GIS Developer to support and enhance our enterprise GIS environment. This role combines advanced spatial analysis, enterprise geodatabase management, and GIS application development with a strong emphasis on automation, data integrity, and system architecture.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Esri technologies, strong Python scripting skills, and experience designing, maintaining, and automating complex GIS data workflows. This position also plays a leadership role, providing technical guidance, coordinating contractors, and supporting project planning and execution.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze, design, develop, and maintain complex geographic databases and feature datasets
- Create, manage, and maintain enterprise geodatabases (ArcSDE)
- Ensure data structure, integrity, quality, and interoperability across systems
- Perform database updates, edits, and corrections as required
- Design, develop, and maintain GIS automation solutions using Python (Arc Py/API)
- Develop ETL processes using FME for data conversion and integration
- Independently evaluate and program software applications to automate GIS data capture, conversion, and maintenance
- Debug, test, and optimize GIS-related code and workflows
- Determine data conversion algorithms and application/data architecture
- Troubleshoot GIS data, processing, and integration issues
- Design and deliver programmatic solutions for internal and external map and data requests
- Review and validate spatial data from government agencies and private contractors for accuracy and consistency
- Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on spatial data using both manual and automated methods
- Coordinate the work of external contractors and suppliers to meet project objectives
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations to management and stakeholders
- Develop processes, procedures, schedules, and documentation
Assist with preparing draft project budgets and monitoring budget compliance
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, or a related field
- 5–8 years of progressive experience in GIS analysis, enterprise GIS, or GIS development
- Expert proficiency with Esri products, including:
- ArcGIS Desktop / ArcGIS Pro
- ArcGIS Online
- Advanced experience with:
- SQL and spatial databases
- Python scripting (Arc Py, GIS APIs)
- FME for ETL and data integration
- Strong understanding of GIS data architecture, automation, and system design
- Proven ability to work independently and make technical decisions
- Experience leading GIS projects or mentoring junior staff
- Background working with government agencies, utilities, or large enterprise GIS environments
- Strong communication and documentation skills
