Job Description & How to Apply Below

Are you passionate about shaping the future of humanity’s presence in space? Lunar Outpost, an industry leader in space robotics and planetary vehicles, invites you to join our team! Lunar Outpost is dedicated to creating a permanent presence in space, while also driving positive impacts here on Earth. Lunar Outpost is seeking a Lead Harnessing Engineer to own the architecture, design, and execution of electrical wiring interconnect systems (EWIS) for our lunar vehicle and spaceflight programs.

This role is responsible for technical leadership of harnessing design across flight systems, prototypes, and ground support equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant interconnect solutions for human‑rated and robotic missions. Your work will not only contribute to groundbreaking lunar missions, but also to technologies that have the potential to benefit humanity on Earth. Collaborating with cross‑disciplinary engineering teams, you’ll bring deep technical expertise and leadership to solve complex integration challenges in a fast‑paced, startup environment.

Take the #Next Leap with Lunar Outpost and work on the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV), which will carry NASA astronauts farther than they’ve ever been before on the lunar surface!

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the technical lead for electrical harnessing architecture, design, and integration across vehicle and subsystem levels
  • Own end‑to‑end wiring interconnect system (WIS/EWIS) development including requirements, schematics, harness layouts, drawings, analyses, and as‑built configurations
  • Define harnessing architectures for high‑voltage, high‑power, and signal‑level systems in spaceflight and lunar surface environments
  • Lead trade studies and design decisions related to wire types, connectors, shielding, grounding, separation, routing, and protective features
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering on routing, packaging, strain relief, bend radius compliance, structural interfaces, and vehicle integration
  • Author and review harness drawings, wire lists, pinouts, cable assemblies, and installation documentation
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable NASA and aerospace standards (e.g., NASA‑STD‑8739.4, NASA‑STD‑4009, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, MIL‑STD‑1553 where applicable)
  • Act as the primary technical interface for harnessing with NASA customers, partners, suppliers, and internal IPTs
  • Support planning and execution of harness fabrication, inspection, integration, and test activities (continuity, EMI/EMC, functional testing)
  • Provide technical oversight during vehicle integration, troubleshooting, rework, and anomaly resolution
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid‑level engineers, setting best practices for harnessing design and documentation
  • Contribute to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR), flight readiness reviews, and qualification efforts
  • Support configuration management, requirements traceability, and verification documentation
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in electrical harnessing, wiring interconnect systems, or related aerospace electrical design
  • Demonstrated experience leading harness design for complex aerospace or spaceflight systems
  • Hands‑on experience with high‑voltage or high‑power harnessing (>120 VDC or kW‑class systems)
  • Direct experience working with NASA programs, payloads, or flight hardware (human‑rated or Class A preferred)
  • Strong background in electrical system design including power distribution, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity
  • Working knowledge of mechanical integration principles affecting harness design (packaging, tolerancing, thermal, vibration)
  • Experience with aerospace wiring standards and workmanship requirements
  • Ability to lead technical efforts independently and make sound engineering judgments under schedule pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self‑motivated, organized, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced development environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science (MS) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • Experience supporting…
