About the Position
Temporary Electronic Specialist II located at CDOT’s Golden, CO location. Position is paid with an hourly wage of $30.11 and runs up to 9 months.
Responsibilities- Access and troubleshoot communication, power and device specific issues, including testing and repairing equipment.
- Test and splice fiber where necessary under direction of supervisor.
- Perform maintenance of ITS asset components, such as cleaning camera lenses and testing fiber laterals.
- Repair devices or power/communications infrastructure, escalating complex repairs.
- Trace and review power infrastructure (pedestals, meters, transformers) to troubleshoot power issues.
- Troubleshoot and repair electronic, electromechanical and communication devices using test equipment, hand and power tools.
- Other job duties as assigned.
- Primarily 6:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday‑Thursday (4/10) shifts.
- Approximately 90% field, 10% office.
- Travel required during work hours throughout Metro Denver/Front Range.
- Work in extreme temperatures and variable weather conditions.
- Required to operate CDOT vehicles.
- At least two years of technical experience maintaining, repairing, installing, or fabricating electronics or fiber optics communications equipment.
- Or a combination of related education and two years of experience. Education may be from an accredited college or university with coursework in fiber optics, electronics, electrical engineering, computer science, information technology or a closely related field. A copy of the official or unofficial transcript must be submitted with the application.
- State service experience related to position duties.
- Demonstrated success with duties listed.
- Experience with power and hand tools, locating equipment, bucket truck or pole cat operation.
- Knowledge of fiber optics, digital/analog electronic theory, telecommunications and wireless networks.
- Knowledge of ITS devices (variable message signs, CCTV, radar, weather stations).
- Knowledge of traffic signal control systems and MUTCD.
- Ability to interpret electronic schematics.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and time‑management skills.
- Passion for safety and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Gmail, Q‑free and Kinetics, SAP.
- Must pass pre‑employment screening, including social security number trace, criminal records check, educational records, and driving records.
- Must hold a valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Must be able to report promptly for essential services and may be required to live within 30 minutes driving time.
