Job Description

The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) Data Engineering Group seeks a graduate intern to serve as a curator for the Geothermal Data Repository (GDR) and support related domain‑specific data repositories. The role involves reviewing and enhancing data submissions, ensuring metadata quality, consistency, and usability, and advising researchers on best practices for data organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curate geothermal datasets to ensure metadata completeness, accuracy, and alignment with repository standards.
  • Apply data standards and identify gaps or inconsistencies in submissions.
  • Coordinate with data submitters to resolve issues and improve data quality and usability.
  • Occasionally support geothermal research, including data management, geomodelling support, and literature review.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Currently enrolled as a full‑time graduate student in geoscience, engineering, data science, or a related field OR earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months (eligible for up to one year of internship).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, organizational ability, and ability to work independently.
  • Interest in data management, curation, or scientific data workflows.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with geothermal or other energy technology datasets (geophysical, geological, geochemical, geospatial).
  • Knowledge of marine hydro kinetics or other renewable/alternative energy systems.
  • Coding experience in Python.
  • Customer service experience and critical thinking/problem‑solving skills.
Employment Terms & Salary

Annual Salary Range (full‑time 40 hours per week): $44,500 – $71,200.
Internships projected to be less than 20 hours per week are not eligible for medical, dental, or vision benefits.

Benefits

Medical, dental, and vision insurance; 403(b) employee savings plan with employer match; sick leave (where required by law). Interns may be eligible for relocation expense reimbursement.
