Technical Project Monitor - Office of Geothermal
Full Time – Golden, CO, US
Salary Range: $75,000 to $100,000 annually
The U.S. Department of Energy's Hydrocarbon and Geothermal Energy Office (HGEO) seeks a Technical Project Monitor to support geothermal research and development (RD&D) programs, focusing on enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) and thermal energy storage. The role is based in Golden, CO or Washington, DC and will work collaboratively with federal staff and industry partners to advance gigawatt‑scale geothermal energy.
Position Responsibilities- Monitor geothermal RD&D awards from inception through close‑out, including development of funding notices, budget and schedule tracking, and final technical report review.
- Coordinate negotiations of award packages and processing of changes using government systems.
- Provide input on interim deliverables, final reports, and partake in merit reviews of research proposals.
- Develop and manage competitive solicitations and coordination of merit reviews.
- Engage with OG stakeholders to ensure alignment of project goals and address gaps at the federal level.
- Assist in creating briefing materials for decision makers and contribute technical reviews of external communications.
- Represent program status to senior government officials, congressional stakeholders, academia, and industry partners.
- Support coordination efforts with external government agency partners.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
- Client and stakeholder relations experience.
- Professional attitude and strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, One Note, Teams).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and independent problem‑solving abilities.
- Rapid learning of new systems and processes.
- Capacity to balance multiple long‑ and short‑term projects with competing priorities.
- Familiarity with geothermal technologies.
- U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- Successful drug screening.
- Expertise in reservoir systems, drilling/well construction, well completion design, reservoir characterization, or geothermal reservoir systems.
- Project management background and/or PMP certification.
- Experience monitoring government‑funded research and development projects.
- Prior work within the Department of Energy.
- Self‑starter with ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Position can be located in Golden, CO or Washington, DC with a hybrid work arrangement.
- Employees are expected to report to the office at least two days per week.
