Production Design Engineer - Modular Systems & Data Centers

As a Production Design Engineer at KUNZ, you ll work at the intersection of parametric modeling, assembly simulation, and production planning on modular data center programs that are redefining how hyperscale facilities get built and deployed globally. You ll develop parametric facility layouts, simulate and optimize assembly sequences, analyze production rates, and build process maps that drive standardized construction across multiple regions, vendors, and configurations.

You ll work alongside senior engineers and visit construction sites to verify and refine assembly logic in the field. If you want to see your engineering work translate directly into how physical infrastructure gets built - this is the role.

• Create 2D layouts of integration facilities across multiple warehouse configurations; iterate with product teams based on feedback
• Build parametric models of modular systems, bay sizing, material staging, and platform space to analyze production capacity across multiple locations
• Analyze production rates using data and lessons learned from prior builds; work with trade partners to create ideal 5S material layouts per bay
• Simulate, analyze, and optimize assembly methods and installation sequences; document findings for product teams
• Optimize material flow from docks to bays; evaluate equipment usage and material staging
• Develop Product Maps, Product Production Plans, and Process Maps for first-of-a-kind industry products and processes
• Support concurrent design of product and process - including visual constructability analysis, repeatability assessment, and crew capacity planning
• Visit construction sites to verify, adjust, and confirm assembly logic and documentation

• Degree in mechanical engineering or related field
• Hands-on proficiency in Solid Works - parametric and assembly modeling
• Familiarity with Revit or BIM environments
• Understanding of manufacturing principles - DFMA, 5S, assembly sequencing, material flow
• Comfortable working across design, engineering, construction, and vendor teams
• Willing to travel to construction sites for field verification
• Detail-oriented and self-directed - you can manage deliverables and timelines without constant oversight
• Experience with production simulation tools
• Background in modular construction, prefabrication, or lean manufacturing
• Exposure to production planning, process mapping, or BOM management
• Experience in data centers, mission-critical infrastructure, or large-scale industrial programs
• Hands-on experience at large-scale or hyper-scale construction sites
