Job DescriptionThe III-V semiconductor group at NLR is looking for an intern to help develop large area semiconductor processing and characterization as part of DOE’s METALLIC initiative ( (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). ). The intern will assist in processing and characterizing III-V semiconductor materials and devices, including solar cells. The work will involve implementing cleanroom processing of electronic devices including, lithography, metal deposition and chemical etching.
The intern will use characterization techniques such as X-ray, microscopy, current-voltage and optical probing techniques to determine material and device quality of III-V semiconductor devices. The work will allow the intern to gain significant experience in device processing and characterization while helping the III-V team meet research goals.
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Undergraduate:
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Undergraduate:
Earned a bachelor’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate:
Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master’s degree program from an accredited institution.
Post Graduate:
Earned a master’s degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year.
Graduate + PhD:
Completed master’s degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications
Cleanroom processing experience including lithography and chemical etching
Experience in characterizing semiconductor materials and devices using, for example, x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, luminescence techniques, current voltage measurements, or device-specific characterization.
