We are managing a search for a Director of Business Development for our client based in the Greater Denver, Colorado area. Our client is the construction division for Spartan Investment Group and specializes in full‑scale design‑build execution of self‑storage development projects as well as commercial construction.

POSITION SUMMARY

As the Director of Business Development, you will be based in our client’s corporate offices in Golden, Colorado and will be contributing to the leadership of the construction team. This position will involve overseeing all project execution and leading and developing project leadership and our client’s front‑line managers to execute projects safely, on time, and within budget. The right candidate should be an assertive leader who is comfortable speaking in front of groups and communicating with clients internally and externally.

Additionally, this position will require working with the preconstruction team, negotiating contracts, reviewing schedules, and managing monthly project financials. The ideal candidate exemplifies leadership, is detail‑oriented, a self‑learner, a builder of processes, and comfortable maintaining a work‑life balance in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment.

FACTORS FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE INCLUDE:
  • Obtain $50-100M in Annual Revenue
  • Strategic and Tactical execution of our client’s Strategic Plan.
  • Develop and oversee, project teams across the country.
  • Be hyper focused on the safety of our teams and all project stakeholders.
  • Reviewing and negotiating contracts.
  • Manage monthly project financials, schedules, and forecasts.
  • Attending State and National Trade Shows.
  • Engage in speaking events at industry related trade shows and events.
  • Support recruiting and hiring of new team members.
  • Support the estimating and preconstruction team to ensure projects are awarded and completed successfully.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings and communication plan(s) regarding projects among team and/or client.
  • Lead the project close‑out procedures to ensure projects are turned over successfully.
  • Assist Project Manager in setting metrics for KPI’s that align with our client’s and customer’s objectives.
  • Work closely with the project and construction management team to evaluate supplier performance indicators, invoices/billings, schedule, and budgets.
  • Lead Pre‑Mortem and Post‑Mortem risk reviews.
  • Assist in annual planning and program build out of SOP’s.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Organization – Able to handle a variety of tasks while still practicing good time management and communication to deliver assigned projects or important project milestones on time. Tend to multiple problems at once.

Customer Service – Treats internal and external stakeholders alike as a customer and has a service mindset. Seeks to identify solutions and addresses conflict in a tactful and empathetic way.

Leadership – Gain buy‑in from a geographically diverse group. Ability to motivate others and help them succeed. Has a mentorship approach to learning and training development.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
  • 8+ Years of relevant experience at a commercial general contractor
  • Proficiency with Procore a plus
  • Proficiency with AIA contracts
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
  • A drive to learn and do as much as possible in an entrepreneurial setting
  • Ability to use one’s own autonomy and creativity to be macro‑managed with mentorship
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Specifically Excel), Smartsheet and Google Suite products.
