OverviewThe National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is a federally funded research laboratory located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado. NLR’s mission is to accelerate energy innovation through breakthrough research and systems integration, focusing on secure, affordable, and reliable energy solutions. As a graduate intern researcher in the Chemistry and Nanoscience Center, you will contribute to a DOE‑funded project developing tiled photoelectrode architectures for photoelectrochemical reactions.
You will work within a multidisciplinary team, receive advanced training from a mentor, and enhance your professional skills through hands‑on experience.
- Fabricate tiled thin‑film photoelectrodes.
- Collaborate with external research groups.
- Analyze materials using advanced techniques such as atom‑probe tomography.
- Contribute to peer‑reviewed publications based on research findings.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in materials science and materials characterization techniques.
- Preferred:
Experience with thin‑film device fabrication or characterization, proficiency in data‑analysis coding languages such as Python, and a track record of peer‑reviewed publications.

Annual salary range for full‑time (40hrs per week): $51,200 – $81,900. Salary determination considers education, training, experience, and internal pay alignment.
