Job SummaryThe Assistant Manager, Retail Center will manage daily operations of a Retail Center in an Assistant Manager capacity and will serve as Retail Center Manager in the Manager’s absence. The role supports the Retail Center’s financial goals to fund mission operations and community programs.
This position requires hands-on leadership, the ability to manage multiple departments, and the ability to inspire and develop staff. The Assistant Manager works closely with the Retail Center Manager to achieve profitability through operations such as merchandising, donation collection, loss prevention, POS systems, product quality control, pricing, community engagement, and customer relations. The role also supports budgeting, financial reporting, and P&L responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Work closely with the Retail Store Manager to achieve goals, increase sales and donations.
- Recommend changes to operational procedures to maximize expenses relative to revenue.
- Promote safety for all employees and ensure adherence to OSHA and CARF standards. May serve as Safety Representative for the Retail Store.
- Operate and/or train staff on pallet jack, walkie stacker, forklift, hand dolly, or other equipment while maintaining safety standards.
- Maintain awareness of competition and retail trends; suggest appropriate courses of action.
- Maintain knowledge of the Point-Of-Sale system and empower staff to achieve store goals.
- Oversee daily operations across all Retail Store functional areas (sales floor, donation area, production, warehousing, and storage).
- Direct hiring, performance management, and staff development for at least one department; participate in termination decisions as appropriate.
- Adhere to Goodwill policies and the Employee Handbook; participate in staff training and knowledge transfer.
- Be on call for alarm notifications after hours and perform additional duties as required.
- The Bench Assistant Manager may be assigned to locations beyond the immediate geographic area to meet business needs, provide coverage, and support growth and training.

Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
Experience:
- At least 2 years supervising retail operations (or similar) with accountability for business success, operations, and financial results.

- Ability to work under deadlines; understanding of marketing and retail principles.
- Knowledge of production processes and ability to empower staff to produce products timely.
