DESCRIPTION: This position requires greeting our customers and completing fast and friendly transactions. Strong cash handling skills are highly preferred. The role supports Goodwill's mission by offering to round up transactions and thanking our customers for their purchases. Excellent customer service skills are a must.

Job Summary

The Associate I, Retail Sales Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service by greeting customers in a welcoming manner and responding timely and professionally to customer inquiries. Sales Associates must help maintain a well‑stocked and organized sales floor that meets company standards and be able to operate a point‑of‑sale (POS) cash register system to ensure the quality of product and pricing are accurate at the time of purchase.

Functions
  • Verification of till counts, accurate cashier transactions, and maintenance of a balanced cash drawer using a computer‑based point‑of‑sale system.
  • Driving the roundup initiative by engaging customers and sharing knowledge of the mission it supports.
  • Providing excellent customer service while upholding company values.
  • Assisting customers with questions, concerns, and purchases.
  • Completion of opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized sales floor by regularly cleaning and organizing shelves and racks, picking items up off the floor, putting away product from racks, carts, or baskets, and returning or disposing of unwanted items.
  • Providing a safe, clean, organized, and well‑stocked POS, sales floor, and restrooms.
  • Initiating customer delight/power hour calls over intercom to organize and clean the sales floor.
  • Following all retail center policies and procedures.
  • Following all safety processes and procedures to help provide a safe working environment for employees and customers.
  • Cross‑training in other departments or areas; acting as a back‑up for other areas as required.
  • Job duties may extend beyond the tasks listed and may include additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Experience: One (1) year of retail sales or cash handling experience is preferred.

Other:

  • Accurate with numbers and general calculations; understanding of different coin values and U.S. currency.
  • Basic math skills: adding, subtracting, and multiplication.
  • Effective communication with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
  • Operation of a computer‑based cash register and credit card machine.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting up to nine (9) hours per day.
  • Color vision for accurate transactions.
  • Work a varied schedule that includes weekends, evenings, and holidays with occasional overtime as necessary.
