Job Description
The III‑V semiconductor group at NLR is seeking an intern to develop large‑area semiconductor processing and characterization as part of DOE’s METALLIC initiative. The intern will assist with cleanroom processing of electronic devices, including lithography, metal deposition, and chemical etching. The role also includes characterizing III‑V semiconductor materials and devices—such as solar cells—using techniques like X‑ray diffraction, microscopy, and optical/potential measurements to assess device quality.
The experience gained will contribute directly to the group’s research goals and provide hands‑on exposure to device processing and characterization.
- Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Undergraduate:
Full‑time enrollment in a bachelor’s program at an accredited institution - Post‑Undergraduate:
Bachelor’s degree earned within the past 12 months; up to one year internship eligible - Graduate:
Full‑time enrollment in a master’s program at an accredited institution - Post Graduate:
Master’s degree earned within the past 12 months; up to one year internship eligible - PhD Enrollment:
Completed master’s degree; currently enrolled as a PhD student at an accredited institution
- Experience with cleanroom processing, including lithography and chemical etching
- Experience characterizing semiconductor materials and devices using X‑ray diffraction, electron microscopy, luminescence techniques, current‑voltage measurements, or device‑specific characterization methods
Annual salary range for a full‑time 40‑hour per week position: $44,500 – $71,200. Salary is determined by education, training, experience, quality and quantity of work, and internal pay alignment.
