Position
Heavy Duty Equipment – Shop Mechanic (Fleet Maintenance)
Location:
Multiple locations across Colorado.
Rate: $30 – $34 per hour depending on experience.
What You Will Be Doing- Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, plumbing and electrical systems following specifications and manuals.
- Visually inspects and listens to machines and equipment to diagnose causes of malfunctions.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Communicate timely and effectively with shop leadership about major problems.
- Operate mobile equipment including service truck to retrieve down‑truck assets.
- Perform daily preventive maintenance and inspection on service vehicle (fueling, cleaning, tire/light inspection, checking and adding fluids).
- Service pumps/motors as needed.
- Perform welding, repair, and fabrication.
- Purchase parts for repairs as needed.
- Make service calls at other BURNCO plants or job sites as needed.
- Assist in training co‑workers as needed.
- Perform general clean‑up of work area.
- Follow all BURNCO policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Proper preventive maintenance.
- Timely response to maintenance service requests.
Skills and Abilities
- Good working knowledge of mechanics related to truck and general maintenance.
- Ability to use power tools, welders, cutting torches/chains and various safety devices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper mechanic/maintenance procedures such as lockout/tag‑out and special work permits.
- Proficiency with computer and program systems; experience with Allison transmissions, Davie 4 and ESA software a plus.
- Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
- Ability to pass MVR (clean driving record).
- Commercial driver’s license a plus.
- Provide own personal tools up to ¾.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
- High school diploma preferred.
- 3-5 years of heavy‑duty truck mechanic experience required.
- Experience with concrete mixers preferred.
- May be required to travel to various company facilities to perform maintenance activities.
The physical demands of this job include:
- Regularly working outside, exposed to various weather conditions including hot/cold temperatures and rain/snow.
- Constant use of eye/hand coordination, near vision, and hearing.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, carrying up to 50 lbs, pushing, pulling; manual dexterity, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, far vision, and color discernment.
- Exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery, moving equipment, oil, debris, solvents, smokes, gases, fumes and aggregate materials.
- Required PPE includes safety shoes above ankles, safety vests, safety glasses, ear plugs, and hard hats; additional PPE may be required for special jobs such as welding, repairing, etc.
