We are currently seeking a Head Lifeguard to perform a wide variety of lifeguarding and pool maintenance duties for the City’s Aquatic Facilities. Ensure the safety and enjoyment of all guests in the aquatics area by maintaining a safe and clean facility. Provides rescue assistance and administers First Aide/CPR/AED as necessary. May be assigned to work at either the Golden Community Center or the Splash Aquatic Park.

Ensure appropriate guard/staff ratio. Follow and enforce all pool and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Work hours may vary and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • Responsible for the health and safety of guests in the aquatic area.
  • Responsible for staffing the aquatic area with the appropriate number of lifeguards and overall supervision of the aquatics area. Assign lifeguards as conditions warrant.
  • Performs duties of lifeguards/swim lesson instructor.
  • Responsible for the lifeguard staff and pool operations during supervisor’s absence.
  • Responsible for monitoring staffing needs in relation to the number of guests at each pool, the weather conditions, and for pool closures.
  • Oversee and implement facility procedures during emergencies. Duties to include rescue, first aid/CPR, communicating with guests, completing all necessary documentation, and reporting all incidents to Aquatics Supervisor.
  • Keep pools in safe condition by checking safety equipment and proper chemical balance.
  • Assign and perform opening, closing, and cleaning duties. Complete shift reports.
  • Keep supervisor informed of any staff, guest, facility, or chemical issues.
  • Cautions, educates and advises swimmers regarding unsafe areas and hazards. Rescue guests in distress and administer first aid.
  • Educate guests about pool rules, policies and regulations.
  • Maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Inspect facilities for cleanliness. Perform daily cleaning and maintenance duties.
  • Establish and maintain a good public relations image for all aquatic programs and activities.
  • Perform and record pool water chemistry testing. Proficiently use chemical testing reagents and accurately record readings and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Keep all required certifications current. Update to new material as necessary.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings as required.
  • Responsible for finding a qualified substitute when it is necessary to miss a scheduled shift.
  • May be required to teach in the Learn to Swim program at the Golden Community Center or Splash Aquatic Park.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Directly supervises lifeguards on duty during assigned shift.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Minimum Qualifications

Minimum 17 years of age with one year related experience or training. Previous lead/supervisory experience preferred. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to provide and maintain a leadership role for lifeguarding staff.

  • Current American Red Cross First Aid Certification
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/AED for The Professional Rescuer Certification
  • Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification
  • Current Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
