Staff Accountant

Job Description

Full-time tax staff position at Markham, Mitchell & Stroud, PLLC in Goldsboro, NC.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting, and supporting the partners in carrying out the responsibilities of accounting, reviews, consulting and tax.

• Provide timely, high-quality client service that meets or exceeds client expectations including preparation of reviewed and compiled financial statements, related disclosures, and other client deliverables.
• Preparation of review engagements and the financial statements in addition to notes to financial statements.
• Prepare individual and business tax returns and assist partners with tax planning.
• Analyze client prepared data and make necessary adjustments required for tax reporting.
• Perform tax research and respond to correspondence from taxing agencies.
• Identify technical accounting matters early and assess impact on financial statements.
• Anticipate and address client concerns and communicate any issues to Partners as they arise.
• Identify and communicate accounting matters to Partners if warranted.
• Preparation of individual, partnership, corporate and non-profit tax returns.
• Preparation of quarterly payroll reports, W‑2s and 1099s.

• Undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting.
• Solid understanding of accounting and basic tax issues.
• Ability to utilize technology to enhance client services.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office, and accounting and tax software. We use Quick Books and Thomsen Reuters software for accounting and tax services.
• Applicant should demonstrate a willingness to learn new tax and accounting software and be willing to commit the time required to get a firm grasp on the intricacies of the software.
• Experience with financial statement preparation and tax preparation.
