Job GoalTo help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district-approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress, activities and outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students; creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer elementary curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate them into learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instruction to fit individual needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
- Instruct students in responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified by applicable laws, and in administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
- Continuously acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in education through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or research.
- Organize and maintain an accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting system for all student activities, achievements and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement in students’ education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms with school standards and district policies, establishing and maintaining behavior standards for a functional learning environment.
- Coordinate with other elementary staff, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and supplies, and maintain inventory records.
- Supervise students in activities outside the classroom during the school day, including transportation-related activities.
- Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators designated by the Superintendent.
Challenges with EquipmentUses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel RequirementsTravels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy and ability to differentiate instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and formulation of action plans.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self-evaluation for performance improvement and professional growth.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others encountered in the course of work.
Works in standard office and school building environments.
Qualifications Profile- Certification/License:
State certification as an Elementary Teacher. - Preferred:
State certification at the appropriate grade level.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
- Master’s degree in a related area preferred.
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is a plus.
