Job Title
An employee in this classification provides assistance with the day-to-day support details of enrichment and recreation programs.
Essential Functions- Provides assistance creating and maintaining records in recreation management software.
- Maintains fitness equipment and general cleaning of fitness center.
- Assists with activities in facility, including the leisure center/game room area.
- Develops supply-purchasing needs; performs research for supply purchases; organizes and distributes snacks and supplies for program.
- Researches program activities and projects; prepares resources for staff for utilization in program development.
- Prepares program reports regarding general program information.
- May type correspondence, memos, calendars, rosters, and lists.
- Maintains records and files on programs, classes, and activities.
- Organizes storage areas.
- Performs other job-related duties or tasks as required.
- Basic use of computer for records management: developing schedules, communications, and providing program support.
- Ability to research information, create correspondence, etc. to assist program staff.
- Ability to schedule and implement recreational and educational programs.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to organize and maintain records for easy retrieval; effective time management skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and general public.
Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, and bend, occasionally in conjunction with reaching for and manipulating objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis such as boxes/bags of activity materials, snack foods, etc. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 70% of the work period while working with children in activities.
Employee is subject to indoor and outdoor temperatures (over 90% inside and the remainder outside). Exposure to loud noise fluctuates but is on average low and never requires ear protection. - Pursuing high school diploma or GED
- Proficient use of MS Word, Excel, and other software programs
- Must possess excellent communication skills
- Possession of or ability to obtain first aid and CPR certifications
- Scheduling experience is a plus

Vacation Leave:
Employees earn vacation leave as follows:
Years of Service Days per Year 0 - 4 years 12 5 - 9 years 15 10 - 14 years 18 15 - 19 years 21 20 + years 23 A maximum of 30 vacation days may be carried over from one calendar year to the next. Any excess of 30 vacation days on December 31 of each year may be transferred to employees sick leave balance, provided that they have taken five (5) days of vacation in the calendar year.
Holidays:
City paid holidays are New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birthday, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving (2 days) and Christmas (3 days). When a holiday falls on a Saturday, the previous Friday shall be observed. When a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday shall be observed. In order to receive a paid holiday, an employee must be on paid status before and after the holiday.
Sick Leave: Sick leave is accrued at one day per month or 12 days per year.
Employee Assistance Program The Employee Assistance Program is available to all full-time employees and covered dependents on the employee's health insurance plan. Part-time employees who work 30 hours or more per week on a continuous year-round basis are also eligible for EAP services. Employees and dependents each receive three free visits per year. Services include, but are not limited to, financial counseling, depression, mental illness, and end of life/terminal illness.
Medical and Dental Insurance: The City of Goldsboro is fully-insured, and provides medical, dental, and vision insurance through the State Health Plan (SHP), Met Life, and Community Eye Care respectively. Medical, dental, and vision coverage is available to all full-time employees. Part-time employees who are scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week on a continuous year-round basis may, if they so desire, purchase available group health through the City for themselves and qualified dependents.
Life Insurance: All regular employees are provided a basic term life insurance coverage policy in the amount of $20,000.00 at no cost.
