About the Role

A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking a Controller to lead its on-site finance function. This is a high-visibility role with meaningful autonomy at the business-unit level and a clear succession path to senior finance leadership over time.

The Controller will oversee accounting, reporting, cost accounting, and internal controls while partnering closely with operations and manufacturing leadership. This role is both strategic and hands-on, ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the business, driving process improvements, and leading a lean finance team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead monthly close, financial reporting, and analysis on an accelerated close schedule
  • Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and general ledger activities
  • Ensure accuracy of inventory reporting, cycle counts, and related controls
  • Oversee cost accounting activities to ensure accurate product costing and variance analysis
  • Review and ensure timely completion of all account reconciliations
  • Analyze and report budget-to-actual performance and operational cost trends
  • Participate in regular cost and productivity reviews and validate savings
  • Prepare financial data and analysis for leadership and business reviews
  • Monitor compliance with internal controls and SOX-related requirements
  • Coordinate external audit activities and ensure timely delivery of audit support
  • Support ERP system improvements, upgrades, and conversions
  • Lead, develop, and manage the finance team
  • Drive continuous improvement across accounting processes and reporting quality
  • Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as needed
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Hire, train, and develop finance team members
  • Set expectations, assign work, and provide coaching and performance feedback
  • Foster a collaborative, high-integrity team culture aligned with business objectives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred but not required
  • 5 to 8 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Manufacturing accounting experience required
  • Strong working knowledge of cost accounting, including standard costing, BOMs, and inventory variances
  • Experience working in a fully integrated manufacturing ERP environment
  • Background as an Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller strongly preferred
  • Strong Excel and spreadsheet skills; able to work quickly and accurately
  • Proven ability to operate independently, think critically, and make sound decisions
  • Strong leadership presence with high standards for accuracy, ethics, and accountability
Nice to Have
  • Experience in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments
  • Prior involvement in ERP implementations or system transitions
  • Exposure to public accounting or audit in a manufacturing context
Work Environment
  • Fully onsite role within a manufacturing facility
  • Frequent interaction with operations, production, and leadership teams
