Hiring range is negotiable between $76,316 and $99,195 depending on a candidate's qualifications and experience.

Performs professional and technical work developing, implementing and supporting an automated information system for the City.

The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Ensures proper installation and configuration of MSSQL and Oracle servers and databases. Work involves writing scripts and creating SQL queries for MSSQL and Oracle. Install and maintain the performance of database servers.
  • Serves as enterprise application administrator.
  • Backup and disaster recovery administrator.
  • Develop processes for optimizing database security.
  • Set and maintain database standards.
  • Manage database access.
  • Performance tuning of database systems.
  • Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors.
  • Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
  • Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
  • Create automation for repeating database tasks.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves hardware and software problems for the servers, network printers, PCs varying in make, model, operating systems, servers and software packages, including various types of equipment at other sites.
  • Maintains daily activity logs in ticketing system; provides detailed documentation of all tickets.
Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge with database management best practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of SQL server and how it integrates with ODBC connections on the client machine.
  • Considerable knowledge of current information technology in hardware, software and various applications and configurations.
  • Considerable knowledge of how computer technology can be integrated into the environment for a variety of applications and purposes.
  • Considerable knowledge of mid-range, personal computer, network and client/server environments.
  • Ability to analyze, diagnose, and solve computer hardware, network and application problems.
  • Ability to understand technical language, programming and applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, City officials and vendors.
  • Thorough knowledge of a variety of manufacturer’s software capabilities.
  • Ability to plan and implement systems with the IT Director and Network Administrator.
  • Ability to troubleshoot operational problems and recommend software and hardware solutions as well as applications; implement solutions within a set time frame and prepare detailed documentation.
  • Ability to provide demonstrations and training sessions which increases participants’ knowledge and ability to use PC software, hardware and in‑house developed systems.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and prepare clear and concise instructions and summaries of materials.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Physical Science or related discipline.
  • Five (5) years of experience in server/systems support and/or computer programming; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses
  • Possession of an MCSA Certification preferred.
  • Experience in the following is preferred:
    • Programming in SQL server
    • SQL Server Administration
Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, operate a computer, and do extensive reading.
