Title:

Head Custodian/Bus Driver. Reports to Principal or Department Administrator. Job Goal:
Provide cleaning and minor maintenance tasks in a facility and supervise custodians assigned to that building/school.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum three years’ experience with custodial work.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Follow all rules, policies and procedures of Wayne County Public Schools, along with state and federal regulations pertaining to school facilities.
  • Explain and/or demonstrate work procedures to other custodians.
  • Assist with cleaning duties to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Plan work schedules and assign custodians (including self) to work areas and duties.
  • Inspect work and direct corrections of deficiencies.
  • Maintain simple clerical records of supplies and equipment.
  • Requisition cleaning supplies and materials.
  • Issue cleaning supplies and materials to custodians.
  • Make minor repairs to furniture or facilities as needed.
  • Assist with submitting work orders that require outside attention.
  • Clean and make minor repairs to heating and air conditioning equipment, including regular replacement of filters.
  • Participate in scheduled training workshops and apply new knowledge and skills in daily work.
  • Provide basic in‑service training of custodians.
  • Make the rounds to determine if work is being completed accurately and safety procedures are followed.
  • Address all day‑to‑day personnel issues with the custodial staff.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required by the Principal or Department Administrator.
Terms of Employment

Twelve‑month work year. A Non‑Exempt.

Starting Salary and Grade

Grade 58 ($32,148 - $42,888).

Evaluation

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to meet all schedules and deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Considerable knowledge of custodial work and associated supplies, materials and equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with students, teachers, administrators and the general public.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, push/pull 75 pounds.
