Summary
Employee will assist in the daily operation of the tankyard and lead a team of tankyard caretakers. Employee will coordinate and oversee all caretaking tasks including heading tanks, un-heading tanks, brine making and the 95 brine lixator, brining up tanks, skimming tanks, circulating tanks, pumping tanks and brine navigation throughout the tank yard, cleaning out tanks, processing tanks, tank sampling, and tank repair and maintenance.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Leads a crew of tankyard caretakers. Must be able to coordinate daily work flow requirements to ensure all tasks are completed in a safe and efficient manner. Ensuring that job tasks are rotated fairly and evenly through the caretaking crew.
- Employee is required to learn and be competent in all areas of caretaking being a fill in as needed. Including, but not limited to, heading tanks, un-heading tanks, brine making and the 95 brine lixator, brining up tanks, skimming tanks, circulating tanks, pumping tanks and brine navigation throughout the tank yard, cleaning out tanks, processing tanks, tank sampling, and tank repair and maintenance.
- Must be able to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- Monitor adherence on the yard to Good Manufacturing Practices and ensure Food Safety and Quality requirements are met.
- Employee is required to learn the differences between brine types (sea salt, organic, used, & green), be competent in formulating each, and effectively manage required ingredients.
- Employee is required to coordinate available tankyard space throughout the season, ensuring clean and appropriately sized tanks are provided to outside production.
- Employee is required to learn and be competent on the table saw and band saw to be able to cut new tank head boards and rounding boards for the caretaking crew.
- Employee must have a fundamental understanding of and ability to carry out basic maintenance duties (i.e. fiberglass patching, plumbing, wiring, pump troubleshooting, etc.) as necessary to maintain the tankyard.
- Must be able to work well with other closely related departments (Outside Production and Maintenance).
- Employee is required to take and maintain inventories on tanking chemicals (salt, vinegar, calcium chloride and potassium sorbate), assist in the unloading of chemical deliveries, and relay any necessary orders to their supervisor.
- Employee is required to take and maintain inventories on tools and supplies needed for caretaking and relay any necessary orders to their supervisor.
- Employee is required to learn and be competent operating all forklifts (5 ton, 10 ton, and industrial lift).
- Participate in cross functional continuous improvement initiatives as directed.
- Must have the ability to work effectively within a team environment and cover any area of the department as needed.
- Keeps work area clean and neat.
- Follows safety rules and company policies.
- Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.
- Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.
- Communicate caretaker expectations, communicate team performance, and oversee caretaker work to ensure quality and compliance.
- Schedule caretakers to assure all areas of the tankyard are effectively covered.
- Employee will ensure that caretakers comply with the “Standard Operating Procedures” (SOP’s).
- Employee will ensure that all caretakers adhere to all company policies and GMPs.
- Employee will be responsible for maintaining the empty tank cleanout inventory and assigning daily tank cleanouts.
- Employee shall provide an open dialect between Outside QC and the Operations and Maintenance groups.
- Complete special projects or tasks as directed by Management.
