Cherry Hospital is a state‑operated psychiatric facility located in Goldsboro, North Carolina that provides services to the eastern counties of the state. The Police Officer is responsible for protecting clients, staff, visitors, and property at Cherry Hospital and the O’Berry Center, and for delivering state and federal law‑enforcement services to these facilities and surrounding areas.
- Protect and secure the facility and its surrounding area 24/7.
- Patrol the premises, serve as a detective, or act as a crime‑prevention officer as assigned.
- Enforce traffic laws, conduct criminal investigations, and make arrests.
- Obtain, issue, and execute search warrants and subpoenas.
- Collect and preserve evidence, maintain chain of custody, and assist in court proceedings.
- Respond to complaints, incidents, or calls requiring intervention or investigation.
- Serve as a float officer on varied shifts (4PM–2AM, 12‑hour rotating shift, and other overnight or evening duties).
- Maintain safety protocols during adverse weather events and other emergencies.
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities consistent with the position description.
- Minimum education:
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED). - Must complete North Carolina Probationary Law Enforcement Certification within one year of employment, including Basic Law Enforcement Training.
- Must be at least 20 years of age.
- Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Physical ability to walk, stand for long periods, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50lbs.
- Knowledge of investigative techniques, search warrants, crime‑scene management, criminal statutes, case law, and office equipment.
- Demonstrated discretion, problem‑solving, communication, and community‑engagement skills.
- Preferred:
Experience in misdemeanor and less serious felony investigations; fingerprint lifting techniques; ability to analyze community problems and propose solutions.
