Overview
Job Description for Manager, Hardware Engineering. Leads a small (5-10 FTE) team of mechanical, electrical, optical, and hardware sustaining engineers to deliver robust, high performance robotic exoscope products. Requires a proven leader and mentor who can clarify difficult technical topics, set clear goals, motivate the team, and coordinate with contributors and stakeholders in technically complex designs. Medical device experience is strongly preferred, with a track record of managing engineering teams through the full product development cycle, including standards compliance, regulatory testing and submission.

Salary and BenefitsSalary range for this position is between $150,000 and $185,000. Base pay depends on training, transferable skills, work experience, education, and market demand. The role may be eligible for bonus and company benefits. The salary range is a good faith estimate and may be modified in the future.

- Promote engineering best practices and rigorous project diligence in analysis and documentation.
- Act as an active reviewer of design performance, compliance, reliability, and manufacturability (DFx).
- Manage the team to develop solutions that meet defined market and product requirements.
- Plan and manage project tasks per scope and schedule using Jira or other tools; phase-based development experience preferred.
- Oversee engineering documentation systems and design transfer to production or service; PLM/PDM experience (Arena, Solidworks, Altium).
- Resource leveling to balance sustaining and new product development activities amid changing priorities.
- Coordinate multiple internal and external initiatives and deliver on schedule expectations.
- Report schedule and technical progress to program management, executive leadership, and during quarterly reviews.
- Possess experience in a medical device or FDA-controlled environment (IEC 60601, ISO 13485, ISO 14971).
- Contribute technically at ~10% in the individual’s area of expertise.
Education/
Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or related field. Minimum of 6+ years of product development experience and 3+ years engineering management experience.
Language:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical material; ability to write reports and communicate effectively; strong command of English language and grammar.
Additional
Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or equivalent. Software knowledge includes Scrum or Agile development (Jira preferred), mechanical and electrical engineering concepts, medical device hardware development, and optical concepts including camera technology.
