Sr. Mechanical Engineer (Will Consider All Senior Levels)
Responsibilities- Create 3D solid models using Solid Works CAD software in support of new and existing space flight programs.
- Apply engineering principles to ensure that designed components and systems meet all requirements.
- Create, maintain, and release component, assembly, and layout drawings compliant with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards. Utilize Solid Works PDM system to maintain configuration control.
- Lead the design and development of deployable solar arrays.
- Proactively interface with multi-disciplinary team members to optimize component and system designs that meet all technical, cost and schedule requirements.
- Utilize hardware-based techniques to perform research and development, iterate on design concepts, correlate engineering models, and develop manufacturing processes and procedures.
- Generate technical documentation, reporting and presentations of design, test, and analysis results.
- Bachelor's in Mechanical or Aerospace or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
- Experience working with design, manufacture and verification of electromechanical systems, photovoltaics, and composite structures.
- Experienced with Solid Works (large assemblies), PDM and ERP systems.
- Experienced with GD&T per ASME Y14.5 along with tolerance analysis capabilities.
- Ability to travel – an average of 10-15% travel may be required. Most of the travel is local but some overnight travel may be required.
- US Citizenship Required, with the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance.
- 3 or more years' experience in space industry, including developing, building, and testing mechanical space flight hardware, ideally deployable solar arrays and coilable booms.
- Self-motivated in applying engineering principles, concepts, and practices of mechanical / aerospace engineering to independently perform assignments.
- Experience with space mechanism design and aerospace guidelines such as GSFC-STD-7000A (GEVS), AIAA S-114-2005, NASA-STD-5017, MMPDS, etc.
- Experience with Thermal Desktop, NASTRAN or ANSYS is a plus.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365.
- Strong attention to detail with advanced verbal and written communication skills.

Pay Range$90,000 - $180,000/yr.

We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the respective marketplace for jobs directly comparable to those within our company. For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries are based on the applicant's level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills.
Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will be considered for higher pay.
