Position: Assembly Operator I - Contingent

Performs a wide variety of electro-mechanical, mechanical or optical product assembly operations on product components, assemblies or sub-assemblies. Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering and fitting on assembly units.

100% on site, Mon-Thur 6am - 4:30pm; three 15-minute breaks; 30 min lunch

Interviews will be in person, single interview with the hiring team

Day-to-day activities of this role:
Work with the production lead for camera heads assembly.

Lots of sitting and team work;
Lots of hand movement for wrist and arm, the camera head fits in your palm, everything under 3 lbs; working w/many small screws etc.

Training on operations for each step is provided, and the candidate will move between various operations to keep things interesting.

Optical cleaning & assembly - can recognize dirt & imperfections under a microscope

Optical experience is very important, half the day is spent viewing through a microscope.

Qualities or traits wed like to see in a candidate. Team player that gets along with people (sitting with people all day); has reliable transportation,

Sand Outs :will have experience in this environment: medical production environment, very clean

Flexibility in Requirements: soldering can be a nice to have

Responsibilities
  • Performs opto/mechanical assembly processes in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Solder electronic components and assembles mechanical parts for medical video products.
  • Manual assembly, rework, and inspection of electronic assemblies.
  • Clean and inspect for defects on all optical elements prior to assembly (optics).
  • Bond, U.V. cure and align optical elements into mechanical cells.
  • Clean, install sensors and optical filters into optical heads and follow testing procedures (optics).
  • Responsible for cleaning, inspection and functional testing of all completed work on optical assemblies.
  • Participation as a member of continuous improvement teams, seeking ways to improve the quality of the optics area and the company.
  • Follow ESD and Safety requirements.
  • Must have the ability to work with hardware and put mechanical parts together.
  • Ability to assemble all current and new products such as prototypes and pilots.
  • Regular attendance is an essential job function.
  • Will spend part of his/her time as a member of continuous improvement teams undertaking projects and seeking ways to improve the quality of KSIs products and services.
Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • 2-3 years of prior optical/mechanical assembly experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Knowledge of medical device quality system regulations and standards (eg, U.S. FDA Quality System Regulation 21

    CFR Part 820, ISO
    13485, ISO
    9001)
  • Ability to read assembly documentation such as, drawings, FCO specifications and MPI work instructions
  • Intermediate working knowledge computer operations and of MS Office, Outlook E-Mail and SAP
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to explain general information and effectively communicate with peers and management
  • Knowledge of basic math
  • Knowledge and ability in the use of hand tools, and arbor press equipment often in a repetitive motion.
  • Familiarity with workmanship criteria and the ability to distinguish acceptable vs. unacceptable product and process quality.
  • Knowledge in component values, orientation, and performance.
  • Must possess basic soldering skills (certification preferred but not required).
  • Must possess good mechanical skills and be capable to follow instructions in the use of optical adhesives and their curing methods.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manual dexterity and good or correctable eyesight to perform delicate and precise tasks
  • Patience and attention to detail is essential as job duties are repetitive in nature
  • Ability to use hand tools and work with small parts
  • Must be capable to be at a workstation in the sitting down or standing up position for long periods of time
  • Exposure to machinery noise and various chemicals such as acetone, alcohol, optical adhesives, cleaners and others as required for assembly procedure
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds in an often repeatable process

Degree Requirements:
Minimum of a high school education or equivalent (appropriate work experience may be substituted for educational requirement)
