Overview
Performs a wide variety of electro‑mechanical, mechanical or optical product assembly operations on product components, assemblies or sub‑assemblies. Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering, and fitting on assembly units.
Work schedule is 100% on site, Monday‑Thursday 6 am – 4:30 pm. Three 15‑minute breaks and a 30‑minute lunch are provided.
Interviews will be in person, single interview with the hiring team.
Day‑to‑day activities include:
- Working with the production lead for camera heads assembly.
- Muscle‑intensive work with a camera head that fits in your palm and weighs less than 3 lbs, utilizing many small screws.
- Training on operations for each step is provided; candidates will move between various operations to keep the work interesting.
- Optical cleaning & assembly – recognizing dirt and imperfections under a microscope; about half the day is spent viewing through a microscope.
- Job requires ability to work in a clean, medical production environment.
- Experience in soldering is a nice‑to‑have but not mandatory.
- Performs opto/mechanical assembly processes in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Solder electronic components and assemble mechanical parts for medical video products.
- Manual assembly, rework, and inspection of electronic assemblies.
- Clean and inspect for defects on all optical elements prior to assembly.
- Bond, UV cure, and align optical elements into mechanical cells.
- Clean, install sensors and optical filters into optical heads and follow testing procedures.
- Clean, inspect, and functional test all completed work on optical assemblies.
- Participate as a member of continuous improvement teams to improve the quality of the optics area.
- Follow ESD and safety requirements.
- Work with hardware and assemble mechanical parts.
- Assemble all current and new products such as prototypes and pilots.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Spend part of the shift on continuous improvement projects.
- 2–3 years of prior optical/mechanical assembly experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Knowledge of medical device quality system regulations and standards (e.g., U.S. FDA Quality System Regulation 21
CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, ISO 9001). - Ability to read assembly documentation such as drawings, FCO specifications, and MPI work instructions.
- Intermediate computer skills and familiarity with MS Office, Outlook, E‑mail, and SAP.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of basic math.
- Proficiency with hand tools and arbor press equipment for repetitive motions.
- Familiarity with workmanship criteria and ability to distinguish acceptable versus unacceptable product and process quality.
- Knowledge of component values, orientation, and performance.
- Basic soldering skills (certification preferred but not required).
- Mechanical skills and ability to follow instructions for optical adhesives and curing methods.
- Manual dexterity and good (or correctable) eyesight for delicate and precise tasks.
- Patience and attention to detail; duties are repetitive.
- Ability to use hand tools and work with small parts.
- Capacity to remain at a workstation in a sitting or standing position for long periods.
- Exposure to machinery noise and various chemicals such as acetone, alcohol, optical adhesives, and cleaners.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds in a often repeatable process.
Minimum of a high school education or equivalent. Appropriate work experience may substitute for the educational requirement.
