This Mechanical Turnaround Planner opportunity is suited to a technically strong professional with significant experience in outage planning and field coordination within industrial environments. The Mechanical Turnaround Planner will support the planning and execution of mechanical turnaround scope, helping to drive safe, organized and high-quality delivery across multiple sites. This opportunity offers a hybrid working arrangement with travel to operational locations and on-site presence during outage execution.
The Planner will play a key role in outage readiness, contractor coordination and work pack development for critical plant activities.
This role sits within an industrial gases operating environment supporting turnaround and outage activity across sites primarily in California, Texas and Louisiana, with potential work in nearby states. The position covers both planning-phase activity and on-site turnaround execution, including travel and field coordination responsibilities. The working environment includes plant areas where adherence to safety standards, quality expectations and site procedures is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Lead assigned portions of turnaround and outage scope through planning and construction phases.
- Develop scope for assigned work orders, identifying supporting disciplines needed to deliver the work safely and effectively.
- Create detailed planning activities for each work order, including task breakdowns, manpower requirements, durations and discipline allocation.
- Produce structured job planning packages containing relevant technical and operational information such as P&IDs, isometrics, bills of material, tools, safe work procedures, standards and quality requirements.
- Provide daily schedule updates during outage execution and support effective progress tracking in the field.
- Coordinate contractor field activity during all outage phases, including safety oversight, work execution support, change management and quality verification.
- Support plant change documentation and follow-through in line with company standards and procedures.
- Promote high housekeeping standards, carry out formal inspections and support close‑out documentation at the end of assigned work scope.
- 10+ years of experience in maintenance and/or engineering disciplines, ideally including industrial outages, exchangers, pumps, hydrotesting and pipe fabrication.
- 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Turnaround Planner or Mechanical Planner in a relevant industrial setting.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, ISOs, piping isometrics, fixed equipment design packages and pipe specifications.
- Previous experience building detailed execution work packs including work plans, safety information, images, P&IDs, isometrics and bills of material.
- Working knowledge of ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, ASME Section I and ASME Section VIII.
- Strong organisational, planning and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively with limited supervision.
- Safety-first approach with the ability to work at height, climb fixed ladders and stairs, and operate effectively in demanding plant environments.
- Valid TWIC card.
- Desirable:
Experience supporting contractor coordination during shutdowns, turnarounds or outage execution phases. - Desirable:
Site‑specific OSCA/OSHA training where required.
