PositionSummary
The Project Accountant plays a critical role in the financial management of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This position partners closely with Project Managers and Executive Leadership to ensure accurate job costing, billing, and financial reporting.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in construction accounting, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and understands the urgency and precision required in commercial construction.
Key Responsibilities- Manage full-cycle project accounting for multiple active construction projects
- Process and track Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Prepare and submit Owner Pay Applications and manage subcontractor pay applications
- Maintain accurate job cost reporting and cost-to-complete projections
- Review subcontractor invoices and lien waivers for compliance
- Support monthly financial reporting and project closeout documentation
- Reconcile project budgets and assist with change order tracking
- Collaborate with Project Managers to ensure financial alignment and forecasting accuracy
- Maintain compliance with contract requirements and internal controls
- Ensure subcontractors are compliant with current W9s and insurance certifications.
- 3+ years of accounting experience (construction industry strongly preferred)
- Proficiency in Sage Intacct, Procore, & Quick Books
- Experience with construction billing processes, including AIA pay applications
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting principles
- High attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Background working for a commercial general contractor
- Experience with WIP reporting and financial forecasting
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
