The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of experience in traffic control inspections relating to civil construction and residential parcel development, new industrial and commercial property development, and dry utility installation. The candidate should have knowledge of traffic control principles and concepts, preferably certified to review and approve traffic control plans. The ability to read and understand civil construction plans, and proficiency in interpreting specifications, is required.
Knowledge of construction materials, means and methods, and the ability to complete inspection reports and forms accurately are essential. The candidate should have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, embrace Goodyear Core Values, and be adaptable to change. This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following functions do not identify all duties performed by the incumbent. Other duties and responsibilities will be performed as assigned.
Responsibilities- Inspects private developer construction projects and City contract projects to assure an acceptable quality level and compliance with MAG specifications and standards in civil engineering and public works areas, including but not limited to: sewer installations, water installations, storm drain installations, grading and drainage work, street light installations, dry utility installations (electrical, telephone, telecommunications, and cable TV trenching and conduit installation), paving and concrete work, bridges and structures.
Performs SWPP storm water prevention plan inspections, irrigation inspections, and traffic signal inspections. - Interprets, applies, and enforces the provisions of the City's Engineering Design Standards and Policies; MAG specifications and standards; and other applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures. Reviews and interprets construction plans and ensures compliance with requirements governing uniform construction, utilities installation, traffic, sanitation, and other factors. Coordinates construction activities with City departments, divisions, and outside agencies, including developers and contractors.
Initiates acceptance letters or release of Certificate of Occupancy when work meets specifications. - Notifies other City departments when facilities will be affected by construction. Coordinates work sequences and schedules with contractors, private sector utilities, and other City departments. Researches materials and testing; anticipates water usage needs and coordinates with developers and water resources. When necessary, issues field memos, warnings, and stop work orders; monitors project workflow.
- Recommends revisions or updates to the Engineering Design Standards and Policies Manual.
- Records on plans as-built information and maintains field changes on approved field sets of plans; transfers information to office as-built plans. Reviews submitted final as-builts to ensure all field changes are included.
- Communicates and verifies progress payment requests and computes final quantities from the contract bid schedule to determine payment amounts to contractors.
- Prepares and maintains records of inspection activities, prepares reports, enters project data into computerized tracking systems, and attends meetings.
- Maintains project files with documentation of contract correspondence, test results, approved plans and shop drawings, and compliance certificates. Coordinates pre-construction meetings and inspects finals and warranty pre-walks.
- Exhibits a service orientation toward external and internal customers and maintains productive working relationships. Investigates complaints and recommends solutions with developers. Participates in monthly meetings to solve field problems and improve service.
