Opportunity Overview

As the Substation Engineering Manager, you'll be tasked with:

  • Leading a diverse team of engineers and technicians to deliver results on a range of challenging substation projects.
  • Overseeing project execution, including engineering design, material procurement, equipment specification, and construction management for various substation initiatives, spanning from traditional engineering projects to Engineer Procure & Construct (EPC) endeavors.
  • Handling budgeting, scheduling, and client correspondence to ensure smooth project operations.
  • Playing a pivotal role in business development, fostering client relationships, driving project execution, and contributing to proposals.
Key Responsibilities

Project Execution:

  • Developing and managing budgets, schedules, and quality standards across multiple disciplines for assigned projects.
  • Reviewing lower-level engineering work and coordinating activities across disciplines as the responsible charge for assigned projects.
  • Identifying key client interests and communicating them to the project team, devising strategies to address these concerns in project execution.
  • Providing support for business development activities and project changes, including occasional travel for field assignments, client meetings, and organizational gatherings.
  • Applying expertise independently in accordance with companies quality program and providing guidance to direct reports.
  • Assisting in performance management and mentoring activities.

Management Responsibilities:

  • Supervising the work of others, including hiring, disciplinary actions, and pay administration for subordinates.
Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills and a desire to cultivate client relationships.
  • Intermediate proficiency in project development, feasibility studies, conceptual design, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), and energy production estimation.
  • Intermediate understanding of Power Purchase Agreements and their implications on project aspects like siting, permitting, design, schedule, cost, commissioning, and operations and maintenance (O&M).
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable guides, and standards.
  • Intermediate knowledge of civil/structural and electrical/controls engineering.
  • Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of procurement, contract administration, and the proposal process.
  • Preferably licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • Familiarity with testing and commissioning plans and procedures.
  • Five years of experience in substation facility design, with expertise in layout optimization and technical aspects of major equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Completion of pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search, as required by law.

This is a hybrid opportunity located in multiple offices located across the states. Flexible hybrid expectations allow three in-office days and two flex/remote days per week.
