Overview of role:
The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-based scientific expert who supports the scientific and business objectives of cancer therapeutic areas across the product life cycle. MSLs are the primary communicators of Summit’s science within a geography to healthcare professionals and are the field scientific experts on Immuno-Oncology. They combine business acumen, clinical expertise, market awareness, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Depending on therapeutic needs, the role may include clinical development and pipeline support.
- Develop, execute, and maintain high-impact territory plans, including healthcare professional (HCP) and investigator engagement plans aligned with medical and scientific objectives, with a focus on quality.
- Support clinical development and research initiatives across development at the request of R&D, including site evaluation and identification, recruitment, investigator meetings, external expert identification, and involvement of experts to generate scientific data (including investigator-sponsored trials).
- Identify, access, and develop professional relationships with external Immuno-Oncology experts within assigned geography.
- Provide education on disease state, therapeutic landscape, and Summit products across the product lifecycle to healthcare providers and researchers.
- Monitor, participate in, and provide insights from relevant scientific meetings within the geography.
- Maintain ongoing self-education on market issues, product knowledge, and new therapeutic areas relevant to business responsibilities, and establish awareness and relationships for Summit in the medical community.
- Participate in team meetings, organizational activities, and country-driven medical affairs activities (e.g., advisory boards, masterclasses, round tables).
- Create, maintain, and collaborate in cross-functional partnerships to develop and execute account plans that support shared scientific or business objectives.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Doctoral degree in health sciences (MD, PhD, Pharm
D, or equivalent) required. Significant clinical and/or industry oncology experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education. - Minimum 5+ years of solid tumor cancer experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of clinical, scientific/research, or industry-related experience or equivalent.
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in a Medical Science Liaison role.
- Previous pharmaceutical industry experience within relevant scientific discipline strongly preferred.
- Past achievements should include: understanding and communicating complex scientific concepts and data; building credible relationships with HCPs; translating corporate needs into actionable plans; self-motivation; problem solving and analytical skills; critical thinking; ability to work independently.
- Essential requirement: meet healthcare industry representative (HCIR) credentialing requirements to gain access to facilities and organizations in the assigned territory (e.g., background checks, drug screens, immunization/vaccination proof).
- Other requirements:
- Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel); experience with electronic document management systems and document review tools desirable.
- Strong computer and database skills.

- Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time-sensitive and highly confidential documents; prioritize conflicting demands.
- Work in a fast-paced, demanding, and collaborative environment.
The pay range for this role is $200,000-$235,000 annually. Actual compensation is based on factors including skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and location. Total compensation may include bonus, stock, benefits, and/or other variable components. Summit does not accept referrals from employment businesses or agencies for vacancies posted on this site.
