Department administrator. Establishes and enforces policies, procedures, standards and objectives. Directs and supervises staff as well as workflow. Position has budgetary or fiscal accountability. Responsible 24 hours a day for the ongoing effective operation of the assigned nursing department by exerting a leadership role which supports the hospital’s mission, vision, goals and objectives, while focusing on the patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and the community as customers.

Ongoing accountability for the continuous assessment, improvement, coordination and integration of the department services and standards of care into the hospital’s primary function. Position is responsible for approving timekeeping, employee evaluation, meeting applicable regulatory standards, approving supply orders and department strategic planning.

• FINANCE
  • Responsible for budget preparation and adherence based on volume.
  • Responsible for supply chain management for department needs.
  • Monitor productivity/cost per unit of service on a regular basis to meet established budgetary guidelines.
  • As necessary, establish and implement action plans when variances occur.
  • Plan work assignments and resource allocation with full consideration of timeliness and financial impact.
  • Support organization strategies to increase volumes.
  • Mentor and develop staff.
• PEOPLE
  • Complete timely 30‑day stay interviews and 90‑day and annual evaluations.
  • Hire, terminate, train, evaluate performance and supervise staff to provide professional, courteous and timely services.
  • Review turnover trends and develop action plans to address unanticipated variances.
  • Promote employee engagement through staff participation in department operations and activities as measured through employee engagement tools.
  • Appropriately manage staff to ensure compliance with applicable standards, and adhere to organization’s policies and procedures, including standards of behavior and safety guidelines.
  • Enhance communication between various levels of staff, departments and customers to promote a caring and respectful work environment.
  • Provide direction and delegation in a positive, professional manner and ensure follow‑through.
  • Cultivate and promote staff expertise and knowledge relevant to the needs of the specific environment. Assist with the formation, implementation, and maintenance of policies and procedures, job descriptions, and competencies.
