- The RN practice is guided by the ANA Standards for Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics.
- The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, performs diagnostic tests, analyzes results, operates medical equipment, and administers treatment and medications.
- The RN establishes or contributes to a care plan, including medication administration, IV line management, therapies, and observation of patient responses.
- The RN teaches patients and families about illness management, post‑treatment care, diet, nutrition, exercise, and self‑medication.
- The RN provides direction to LPNs and nursing aides, delegates care appropriately, and supports clinical knowledge advancement.
- The RN precepts new hires and assists staff and students in completing competency tasks, and continues to improve nursing practice.
- Collect and prioritize health data systematically, involving the family and analyzing assessment data to determine diagnoses.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized, family‑centered care plans that are evidence‑based and culturally relevant.
- Initiate treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures per standing orders, policies, and procedures.
- Document observations, interventions, therapeutic measures, and monitoring data in a retrievable format.
- Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes and the effectiveness of the care plan, ensuring cost‑effective high‑quality care.
- Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice, standards, and regulations, and systematize evaluation of nursing practice quality.
- Integrate ethical principles and enhance knowledge of cultural and diversity needs.
- Collaborate with peers and health‑care providers for professional development and positive role modeling.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team and patients/families to plan and evaluate care delivery.
- Develop evidence‑based standards of care, identify required changes, and facilitate adoption of best practices.
- Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost when planning and delivering patient care.
- Diploma or ADN:
Complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have ≥5 years of RN experience (direct or indirect) at hire. - Associate or Diploma in Nursing:
Must reference stroke‑specific addendum before start. - Bachelor’s in Nursing (BSN):
Preferred.
- ≥10 months in med‑surg or acute specialty setting (Other).
- ≥1 year RN experience required for all Float Positions.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Certification required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) – State of Arizona licensure required upon hire.
- National certification for unit‑specific patient population – Preferred.
