Job SummarySupervises, assesses, plans, coordinates, facilitates, and evaluates patient care and staff development; determines and maintains unit or program needs and standards (using nursing process and evidence‑based information). Assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into job performance. Assists the Clinical Director in the management of the unit's assigned staff and patient population.
Provides direct patient care according to unit needs and collaborates with physicians in executing the medical plan of care.
- All RN staff who have direct responsibility for the care of stroke patients must have knowledge of stroke symptoms and warning signs, protocols and pathways used to identify, evaluate, and manage stroke patients, NIHSS, Stroke Alert activation and protocol, stroke quality indicators, available stroke patient education materials and community resources, educational requirements, Stroke Center website resources.
- Oversee staff and ensure adequate patient care, including hiring/onboarding, evaluating, managing performance, coaching, and developing employees to ensure productivity, quality of work, and alignment with mission, vision, and values.
- Establish or contribute to a care plan; administer medication, check dosages and avoid interactions; start, maintain, and discontinue intravenous lines; administer therapies and treatments; observe and record observations; consult with physicians and other clinicians.
- Ensure compliance with policies and financial stewardship, accountable for financial integrity of department budget.
- Serve as a resource to staff, patients, families, caregivers, physicians, and visitors to improve patient experience, clinical outcomes, and promote a healthy work environment.
- Teach patients and families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explain post‑treatment and home‑care needs.
- Facilitate inter/intra departmental collaboration, communication, and promote problem solving.
- Participate in policy revisions and committees applicable to the department.
- Contribute to recruitment and retention of talented staff through role modeling, peer relationships, staff education, preceptor/mentor programs.
- Coordinate educational and professional activities as related to department/unit needs.
- Regularly round with physicians, patients, or families to facilitate quality practice and improve patient experience.
- Utilize nursing process and evidence‑based practice to provide patient care and evaluate plan of care.
- Initiate and support quality improvement initiatives and utilize resources effectively and efficiently.
- Direct staff in the application of nursing process, provide coordination, promote independent functioning among employees.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN, BScN) from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution.
- Legally licensed to work as a registered nurse in the State of Arizona.
- All staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients refer to addendum for stroke‑specific education requirements.
- 2 years Registered Nurse (RN) required.
- 3 years Registered Nurse (RN) preferred.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Training Course – Required.
- Registered Nurse (RN) – State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure – Required.
