Position: Campus Security - Estrella Foothills High School

Campus Security

This position is 40 hours/week; benefits eligible. Hours are 8:00 a.m.

- 4:00 p.m.

Full-time positions (30+ hours/week) are eligible for benefits on the first of the month following their 60th day of employment. The district benefits are very competitive and include health, dental, vision, and a life insurance policy. Supplemental policies through Aflac and Legal Shield are also offered at an additional cost to the employee.

Employment terms: 1.0 FTE/9-month, 194 day position

General statement of responsibilities:
Under supervision, performs routine security functions to ensure the protection of property and the safety of students and staff at an assigned school; and performs related duties as required.

Principle duties:

  • Observes school grounds and monitors school parking lot to ensure safety and security of students and staff and prevent trespassing, vandalism, and loitering; reports acts of trespassing, vandalism, and loitering to supervisory staff; checks doors and windows to ensure they are properly secured; monitors school entrances to prevent unauthorized entry to building; patrols hallways and lavatories within building to ensure only authorized persons are allowed access and to prevent vandalism;

    monitors lunchroom areas to maintain order among students and to prevent vandalism; may assist in the supervision of students on school busses and in school in order to maintain discipline and order.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, and community members.
  • Regulates student behavior on campus, in cafeterias, restrooms, and other open areas.
  • Checks passes and identification cards.
  • May be required to control classroom disturbances and defiance of authority.
  • Use reasonable judgment in attempting to identify trespassers.
  • Directs traffic and parking on campus.
  • Observes and reports violations of safety and health codes.
  • Transport district vehicles to/from district Transportation Department.
  • Computer knowledge and writing skills.
  • Campus beautification (pick-up trash).
  • Operate golf cart.
  • Be able to restrain students for their own safety.
  • Knowledge of our flag and proper procedures when displaying and safeguarding it.
  • Must be self-motivated and responsible.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Occupational condition:
Low to medium risk

Physical requirements:

Walking or standing to a significant degree. Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects.

Skills required:

  • Knowledge of basic methods of providing site security and safety, knowledge of basic safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment when responding to safety and security violations and emergencies.
  • Ability to work with school-aged children in enforcing safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Good oral communication skills, good human relations and interpersonal skills.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent G.E.D.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR card.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Class D License.
  • Submit to annual and random, drug and alcohol testing.
  • Acceptable driving record for the last (3) three years.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona identity verified prints (IVP) fingerprint clearance card (AZ IVP FPCC).
  • Private security or public police experience preferred, including knowledge of school and local laws (including search and seizure).

Evaluation procedure:
The evaluation is done by the supervising administrator with input from site principal and lead campus security, in accordance with provisions specified in governing board policy.

Supervision received:
The campus security will receive direct supervision from the lead campus security, and all will be under the supervision of an administrator on campus.
